The first Annual Ward Meeting for Appleton took place on the 9th March 1896 at the Appleton Thorn School Room and seven names were elected from the eight nominations.  The Parish Council later took occupation of the Appleton Parish Hall on Dudlow Green Road on 17 July 1968 and this is still the base for its monthly meetings (apart from August) and any extra committee meetings.

There are four parish wards in Appleton, these are Hillcliffe (West of London Road), Hall (Appleton Park & Longwood Road), Cobbs (Cobbs & North of Longwood Road) and Thorn (Appleton Thorn).
