WELCOME
TO GAWSWORTHWelcome
to the Gawsworth Parish Council website providing
you with information relating to the village of
Gawsworth in Cheshire in addition to detailing
the varied activities of its local governing
body.
Parish
councils are the lowest tier of local government
and they represent civil parishes with
populations in excess of 200 electors. They came
into being in 1894 and they are the tier of
government that is closest to the people. They
are empowered to provide or maintain street
lighting, bus shelters, village halls, clocks,
war memorials, playing fields & play grounds
to name but a few. They also have special duties
relating to public footpaths and obstruction to
rights of way. Parish Council elections are
normally held every four years and a council is
funded from the council tax by means of a
precept. Gawsworth Parish Council's next tier of
local government is the single Cheshire
East Borough Council which
replaced both Macclesfield Borough Council and
Cheshire County Council on 1st April 2009.
