WELCOME TO GAWSWORTH

Welcome to the Gawsworth Parish Council website providing you with information relating to the village of Gawsworth in Cheshire in addition to detailing the varied activities of its local governing body.

Parish councils are the lowest tier of local government and they represent civil parishes with populations in excess of 200 electors. They came into being in 1894 and they are the tier of government that is closest to the people. They are empowered to provide or maintain street lighting, bus shelters, village halls, clocks, war memorials, playing fields & play grounds to name but a few. They also have special duties relating to public footpaths and obstruction to rights of way. Parish Council elections are normally held every four years and a council is funded from the council tax by means of a precept. Gawsworth Parish Council's next tier of local government is the single Cheshire East Borough Council which replaced both Macclesfield Borough Council and Cheshire County Council on 1st April 2009.

NEWS UPDATE:- Please note that the next Parish Council meeting is due to be held in the Vilage Hall on 12th July 2011 at 7:30 pm prompt.

Please note also that the new Clerk to Gawsworth Parish Council is Mrs Linda Thomas (see Contacts page). Linda commenced her employment with the parish council on 1st May 2011 and the retiring Clerk, Mr Alan Brennan, is due to step down at the end of July 2011 on completion of the agreed handover period. Linda has previously worked as both a parish clerk and a town clerk and we welcome her to Gawsworth Parish Council.
